Greetings from the Great Lakes Classic AMC Club, hosts for the 2010 AMO International Show and Convention. Because of the connection to the Woodward Avenue Dream Cruise we are calling this an American Dream. The entry form for the AMO International Show and Convention that is posted in the American Motoring Newsletter is still an older iteration and doesn’t match the registration form on our website. The major difference is the address to send your pre-registration to. Please tell your members to send their registration forms to;
2010 AMO International Convention
c/o Ronda Roberts
23051 Lodge Lane
Dearborn, MI 48128.
This will be the quickest way to get your registration in.
Early registration is also available on-line through PayPal. Visit the
www.greatlakesamc.org web site and follow the links to the registration page. You do not need a PayPal account to use this entry form. This page is only available through the early registration end date of June 15, 2010. The page will be removed on that date and the extra $10 late fee will start applying to all registrations.
Talking about pre-registration there isn’t enough I can say about the advantages of pre-registering. On the entrant’s end you will be guaranteed a seat at the banquet, if you wait we may have to limit tickets. You have the opportunity to reserve an event coin, pre-registrants have preference to purchase one of the limited number. With your registration packet will be a window card pre-filled with all the pertinent info, no filling it out on the show field. This window card will be a one off printed just for this show and I think it looks good enough to frame as a souvenir of the event. You can reserve a T-shirt or a poster and protect against a sell out of these popular items. An email confirmation of your entry will be sent to you.
On our end you will be helping us reduce the hassles of running this event. We will have more accurate numbers to reserve dinners for the banquet. We can prepare enough printed copies of cruise maps and other special event flyers for everybody. We can have enough Sponsors Booklets printed for everybody. All this and more if you pre-register.
The speaker we have secured for the AMO Awards Banquet is Wally Booth from Berkley, MI. He campaigned AMC drag racers in the early 70’s. His cars as restored and owned by Don and Donny Schmidt will be at the American Dream show. You can see them on the Best in Show/Special Interest page of our 2009 show. We all remember the round house discussion of racing memories at the Colorado show between Shirley Shahan and Lou Downing. These stars are returning and Wally Booth will join them after his talk for another session of reminiscing. I am looking forward to this great evening. Here is another good reason to register early and reserve your seat at the banquet.
If you attended our show last year you may recall the Javelin II flip top funny car. This car is slated to return and a second flip top is showing interest in displaying. I don’t have the details yet on this one. If any of your club members are waiting for a good opportunity to bring out a flip top they have tell them to contact Bill Deringer at
2010specialguests@greatlakesamc.org for help with arrangements.
Another group of special guests at the American Dream will be the American Design Team. A group of the designers and model makers from AMC are setting up an interactive modeling display. They will be working on a clay model of a future AMC product and show attendees will be able to touch and draw a modeling tool across the clay to get a sense of what it feels like to model new automotive designs. There is also a rumor that there will be an introduction of a finished model at the show. By visiting our website at
www.greatlakesamc.org and visiting the AMC Design page you can learn how to order one of the posters being sold to help support this effort.
AMO is starting a new class called the American Legacy class for younger AMC owners to enter and compete against themselves and do their own judging under the guidance of an experienced AMO judge. The age limit is to be 25 years. Details of this new class are n the May/June American Motoring Newsletter. If you have any members interested have them register in class code ALC.
